So you’re looking at the Aiper Scuba X1 and the X1 Pro, trying to figure out if around $200 price jump is worth it. They look almost identical out of the box — nearly the same shell, same carbon fiber accents, same general footprint. So the question is whether that extra money gives you better cleaning.
I tested both in my pool with a manometer — a tool that measures suction pressure - at the intake port to record the suction pressure at the intakes.
And here’s what I found in my testing:

I want to be very clear: these numbers reflect results from my own personal testing setup and are not official manufacturer specifications or laboratory-certified data. In my test on that day, the Pro measured lower suction than the base model. Not the same — lower. While it’s possible this specific Pro unit was performing below its peak potential, this was our recorded result after testing in our pool in the same conditions on the same day.
And today, I’ll walk you through exactly what I found, what both robots are actually like to live with day to day, and even share some alternative robots that had higher PSI ratings in my testing.
Hey guys, I’m Ryan with ActuallyUsed. Today we’re putting the Aiper Scuba X1 and X1 Pro head to head. I’ve also got comparison numbers from corded robots I’ve tested side by side — to give you context on where these two land in the bigger picture. Let’s get into it.

Price — What Does The Extra Money Get You?
The base Scuba X1 comes in at around $1,100. The X1 Pro bumps that to roughly $1,300. That’s a $200 gap between two robots from the same family. There’s also an X1 Pro Max above both at around $1,500, which I’ve tested separately — but today the focus is on this specific decision: is the Pro worth the step up from the base?
Looking at the spec sheet, the differences are real. The base X1 runs on a 7,800 mAh battery, uses Aiper’s WavePath navigation with 14 sensors, offers 4 cleaning modes, and charges in about 4 hours. The Pro upgrades to a 10,400 mAh battery, FlexiPath 1.0 navigation, 26 sensors, OmniSense Mapping, 5 cleaning modes plus 3 adaptive modes, anti-fall detection, and debris detection — features the base model simply doesn’t have. Both are rated at 6,600 GPH by Aiper and both are rated for 180 minutes of max runtime.
That last part is worth pausing on. The Pro has roughly 33 percent more capacity with its battery than the base X1, but Aiper rates them at the exact same runtime. That doesn’t mean the Pro is inefficient — my theory, and I want to emphasize this is speculation based on what I observed, not confirmed data, is that the extra sensors, faster processor, and mapping system are probably consuming a larger share of that additional capacity. You’re not getting more cleaning time. You’re getting more tech running in the background.
And there’s one more thing: because that battery is bigger, the Pro takes 5 hours to fully charge versus 4 hours on the base model. An extra hour of charge time every single day. I’ll explain why that matters more than it sounds in a moment.

Suction — The Manometer Test
This is where I stop looking at spec sheets and start looking at data. I ran both robots through the same test: hydro manometer connected to the bottom of the unit at the intake port, fully charged batteries, same pool, same water temperature, same protocol. Again, these are the results I recorded in my testing:
- Scuba X1: 1.2 PSI
- Scuba X1 Pro: 1.0 PSI
That means the base model had 20% more suction in my testing.
Here’s my theory on why — and again, this is my read of the hardware, not a technical diagnosis from the manufacturer: the Pro is running 26 sensors, an active mapping layer, faster navigation processing, and debris detection — all simultaneously, off a shared battery, during a live cleaning cycle.
A bigger battery doesn’t always mean more power to the part of the robot that’s doing the cleaning. More tech drawing from the same pool of energy means something has to give, and in my testing, what gave was the intake pull it seemed.
Now here’s the broader context, because I think it matters when deciding what robot to buy. Both Aipers sit significantly below the corded robots I’ve tested under the same conditions:

- Dolphin Premier: 2.2 PSI in my testing
- Dolphin Sigma: 2.0 PSI in my testing
In my testing, the Premier pulled 2.2 PSI — that is about 120 percent more suction than the X1 Pro and 83 percent more than the base X1 respectively. The Sigma came in at 2.0 PSI, still well ahead of both.
Suction Port Dimensions — Coverage Per Pass
Beyond raw PSI, I also measured the physical intake ports on both robots, because the width of that opening directly determines how much pool floor gets covered on each pass.
- Scuba X1: 7.75 inches wide
- Scuba X1 Pro: 7.75 inches wide
The two robots are essentially identical in intake width — both 7.75 inches across. The Pro’s port is slightly shallower at 1.0 inch versus 1.125 inches on the base model. So on coverage efficiency per pass, these two are comparable. Neither has a meaningful advantage or disadvantage over the other in terms of how much floor they cover per pass.
Where the gap shows up is when you compare both to corded alternatives. The Dolphin Premier runs dual intake ports for a combined 9.5 inches of effective cleaning width. The Dolphin Sigma comes in at 10 inches.

In my experience, that wider intake means both corded robots cover more ground per pass, require fewer total passes to clean the same pool, and — combined with their higher PSI — leave fewer gaps between passes. More pull and wider coverage on every single lap. That’s the compounding effect that shows up in actual water quality after a cycle.
Filtration — What MicroMesh Actually Means
Both the X1 and X1 Pro use a top-loading filter basket with what Aiper calls MicroMesh ultra-fine filtration. The design is straightforward: a mesh basket with a cotton-like inner filter that captures debris as water passes through. It handles leaves, larger debris, and dirt reasonably well in my testing.
Now it is an improvement upon just a basket mesh basket, but I would have loved to see pleated filters here. For context: Dolphin’s NanoFilter cartridges, available on the Premier, Sigma, and Quantum, are a pleated design that helps increase the surface area of the filter. You’ll notice that it looks similar to what a pool cartridge filter would look like.
And after a single NanoFilter cycle in my testing, you can see the difference in water clarity. The filtration on both Aipers isn’t bad — but it’s not NanoFiltration. And at $1,100 to $1,300, I think that’s worth knowing before you buy.

The Daily Reality — Interaction Math
This is the section that most pool robot marketing skips over entirely, but it’s the one that affects you the most: recharging. To keep your robot running a full 3 hour cycle daily with either of these robots, which is how frequently you should be running your robot, here’s the daily routine: the robot finishes its cycle and either surfaces or needs retrieval.
You go outside, pull it out of the water, clean the filter, carry it to the charging dock, and wait. 4 hours for the X1. 5 hours for the Pro. Then you go back out and drop it in again. Two interactions per day, every day. Over a week, that’s 14 interactions just to maintain a clean pool.
That extra hour of charge time on the Pro isn’t a footnote. If you’re trying to run the robot on a consistent schedule, a 5-hour charge window is meaningfully harder to fit into a day than 4 hours.
The flip side to all of this is corded robots. You don’t have to recharge your pool cleaner if you don’t want to – you can actually buy corded robots that have Weekly Timers. You just set it and forget it. And it is a lot easier on a daily basis. Why? Because you only have to touch it once a week to clean the filter. Not daily. That’s 1 interaction vs 14.

So how does it work? Well a Dolphin Premier or Sigma running on a Weekly Smart Timer, you just have to set the schedule once. The robot runs automatically every day at whatever time you choose. You empty the filter once a week and turn it back on. That’s one interaction per week versus fourteen. If you’re away for a few days, it keeps running. If you forget about it completely, it keeps running. That’s what pool cleaning automation looks like. What both Aipers offer is a daily chore with a high-tech finish.
Smart Features — The Underwater Problem
The X1 Pro’s extra sensors, OmniSense Mapping, and additional cleaning modes are real upgrades. In my observation, its navigation does create more intentional coverage patterns than the base model.
But both robots share the same fundamental connectivity limitation: the moment either one goes underwater, the app connection drops. WiFi and Bluetooth don’t travel through pool water — it’s not a software issue Aiper can patch, it’s physics. Once submerged, you can’t steer either robot, change modes mid-clean, or monitor progress.
Aiper does offer the HydroComm module as an add-on for underwater connectivity, but that’s an additional cost on top of a robot that’s already expensive. The Dolphin Sigma, by comparison, communicates through its physical cable throughout the entire cycle — real-time control while fully submerged, no add-on required.

Safety — What the Public Record Shows
I had no safety issues with either robot during my testing period. Both charged and operated as expected throughout my review.
That said, it is a matter of public record that Aiper has issued two significant voluntary recalls in recent years through the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission — the Elite Pro and the Seagull Pro — involving battery overheating risks and covering tens of thousands of units combined.
To be absolutely clear: The Scuba X1 and X1 Pro are NOT part of those recalls. They are newer products. I am not suggesting that these models have safety issues, because I have not seen any in my use. But when you’re making a purchase decision that involves a lithium-ion battery charging unattended outdoors, I believe the brand’s recall history is information a consumer should have.
So Which One Should You Buy?
I would personally recommend switching to a corded robot that doesn’t need daily recharging and provides a higher PSI rating. But based on my testing, if I had to choose between the two: the base Scuba X1 is the better buy. It measured higher suction than the Pro in my testing, charges faster, and costs less. The cleaning performance I observed was comparable between the two despite the Pro’s expanded feature set — and by the one metric I could directly measure, the X1 came out ahead.

The Pro’s navigation upgrades, extra sensors, and debris detection are additions, and they may matter more in pools with complex shapes or heavy debris loads. But if raw cleaning power is the priority — and it should be at this price point — the base model delivered a better result in my testing. Spending more got you less suction, a longer charge time, and the same 180 minutes of runtime. That’s a hard case to make for the upgrade.
The Bigger Picture — Cordless vs. Corded
Here’s where I want to zoom out and give you the full picture, because I think it’s relevant to both of these robots. In my testing, the X1 at 1.2 PSI and the X1 Pro at 1.0 PSI are both significantly behind the corded robots I’ve tested at comparable or lower price points. The Dolphin Premier at 2.2 PSI has a huge suction advantage based on my testing. And with a 9.5-inch combined intake width versus 7.75 inches on either Aiper, it would be my pick if I was going corded.
And if you wanted my high-tech pick, I’d go with the Sigma. The Dolphin Sigma at 2.0 PSI brings a 10-inch intake and real-time underwater app control. Both automate your pool cleaning down to one interaction per week. Something neither Aiper can do.
I’m not saying cordless has no appeal. No cord to manage, no control box on the deck, clean aesthetics — those are real advantages for some setups. But in my experience testing both types extensively, the performance gap at this price range is consistent and measurable. Less suction in my testing, narrower intakes than the best corded options, mesh filtration, no true set-and-forget automation, and a daily charging routine if you want a full 3 hour cleaning cycle daily.

Those are the trade-offs you’re accepting with either Aiper model, and I think they’re worth understanding clearly before you spend thousands of dollars. The Dolphin Quantum is also worth mentioning: it comes in at a comparable price to the Scuba X1, delivers NanoFilters, a high-capacity XXL MaxBin filter basket, and a weekly smart timer. In my experience it’s one of the strongest value options in the corded category.
Final Thoughts
Between the X1 and X1 Pro: go with the base X1 based on my testing. Better measured suction, $200 less, and an hour faster to charge. The Pro’s technology additions didn’t move the performance needle in my experience — they moved it the wrong way.
If you’re open to considering corded, the Dolphin Premier and Sigma both outperformed either Aiper on suction, filtration, intake width, and automation in my testing — and are available at price points that compete directly with both of these robots.
